Founder

Milton J. Wood

Milton J. Wood Company was formed on August 28, 1969, with a single project from a local paper mill. With no resources but strong resolve to succeed, Milton acted as a project manager and superintendent, overseeing the labor from the union hall and using rented tools and equipment. Based on that experience, Milton made a decision to specialize in working exclusively for industrial plants, and that early decision is one of the key reasons for our continued success today. Discipline was something that was never in short supply with Milton. In order to maintain the quality control that was required to succeed in the industrial plants, he developed rules and procedures for every stage of work and enforced ZERO tolerance for failure to follow them. He loved to teach new employees his system and had unending patience with anyone who followed his rules, but no patience for those who didn’t. His motto, “Always Be Prepared for the Unexpected,” was supported by the philosophy of “Make a Plan, Schedule the Plan, and Execute the Schedule,” which was adhered to on every project. From the onset, Milton worked 16-hour days, 6 days a week, with Sundays reserved for rest and church, and he continued with that schedule until the day he retired in 1993.
