SOUTHERN COMPANY/MISSISSIPPI POWER

Power and Energy Fire Protection Systems Fire Alarm Systems

MJW started the design and installation of fire protection and detection systems at the Southern Company’s new power plant located in Kemper, Mississippi in 2013. The Kemper County energy facility will be a state-of-the-art electric power plant that converts coal to gas reducing emissions. MJW has successfully completed previous Southern Company projects in the region.

MJW started the project in May 2013 with design, engineering and budgeting. The project is one of the company’s largest current systems with fire protection and detection system estimated at $4.5 million.

The Kemper plant has been a fast-paced project, requiring a team like MJW that could handle the project’s large size, complexity and ever-evolving customizations. MJW partnered with Southern Company from conception, helping to budget and design an efficient and flexible fire protection project that would meet the tight construction schedule.

In addition to MJW’s vast knowledge of and experience with fire protection and detection systems, the company’s work in the chemical industry was beneficial to the project. MJW has expertise in fire and explosion detection, protection and suppression systems for a wide range of special hazards, including chemicals, explosives, flammable liquids, electronics, combustible dusts, and more.

Milton J. Wood Fire Protection was formed in 1991 in response to industry demand for a full-service, design-build contractor capable of delivering fire protection, fire alarm and fire suppression systems. Offering end-to-end project services including consulting, engineering, fabrication, installation, inspection, and maintenance, MJW has successfully completed projects in 22 US states and 17 countries.
