Rebuilding After the Storm: Kinder Morgan Tampa Recovery Project (2024)
When back-to-back hurricanes struck the Tampa, Florida area in 2024, Kinder Morgan’s facilities experienced significant structural damage that required immediate attention. MJW was called in to support the recovery effort, launching a large-scale restoration project focused on safety, coordination, and rapid mobilization.
The initial priority was the safe removal of a heavily damaged warehouse and load-out building structures that covered critical conveyor systems. Because the compromised structures were unsafe for personnel access, MJW crews executed a meticulous top-down dismantling process using specialized equipment. Once demolition was complete, teams began rebuilding the load-out buildings from the ground up, restoring essential operations with improved structural integrity.
Despite regional labor shortages caused by widespread storm recovery efforts, MJW mobilized personnel from multiple locations to maintain steady progress. Supply chain challenges added another layer of complexity. With local material suppliers depleted after the storms, Kinder Morgan’s corporate division in Texas coordinated the shipment of lumber and critical materials to Tampa, ensuring uninterrupted construction. The spirit of collaboration extended beyond logistics — Kinder Morgan also arranged a food service truck to provide hot meals to workers for an entire month, supporting crews during a time when local dining options were unavailable.
In addition to the primary warehouse restoration, MJW completed a full rebuild of a flood-damaged onsite office facility, including new flooring, walls, and ceilings. The team also replaced approximately 75% of the metal roofing on a separate maintenance building that had sustained extensive storm damage.
This project stands as a testament to teamwork, resilience, and partnership. Through coordinated efforts between MJW and Kinder Morgan, essential infrastructure was restored safely and efficiently. The success of the Tampa recovery project reflects the dedication of every crew member and stakeholder involved — a true example of rebuilding stronger together.
