MJW Powering the Future of Spaceflight at Blue Origin’s New Glenn Launch
The successful launch of Blue Origin’s New Glenn on January 16th 2025 marks a historic milestone in space exploration, and MJW played a crucial role in making it possible. Our team contributed essential infrastructure to the LC-36 cryogenic fuel systems and Transport Erector systems at Blue Origin’s Florida facilities, ensuring safe and efficient fuel transfer for this groundbreaking mission.
MJW installed close to three miles of fully welded vacuum-jacketed cryogenic piping transporting high-performance fuels; Liquid Oxygen (LOX), Liquid Hydrogen (LH2), Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) and Chilled Helium (CHe) from their storage tanks to the Launch Pad and through the Transport Erector to the space vehicle’s first and second stage umbilicals.
In addition to installation of all cryogenic double-wall piping, MJW’s scope included cleaning, wrapping, bake-out and Helium mass spectrometer testing of VJ closure cans to meet the specified vacuum pressure. Once completed, each piping system was pressure tested with gaseous Helium to assure leak-free performance of these critical rocket fuel systems.
MJW’s scope also included fabrication and installation of LOX and LNG vent piping, orbital welding and installation of .188-wall tubing Gaseous Oxygen (GOX) and Gaseous Hydrogen (GH2) systems, and final mechanical and commodity connections between the Transport Erector and the New Glenn rocket, all critical to ensuring seamless fueling and launch operations.
In addition to this, MJW’s Lakeland facility also fabricated, hot-dipped galvanized, and on-time delivered hundreds of pipe supports and movement compensation trim that were then installed by our teams at LC-36 as required for support of cryogenic piping.
The successful completion of this project reinforces MJW’s reputation as a leader in high-precision industrial construction. Our ability to deliver cutting-edge cryogenic rocket fuel infrastructure for one of the most advanced launch systems in the world is a testament to our construction expertise, craftsmanship, and commitment to safety.
We are proud to have supported Blue Origin’s vision for reusable spaceflight and look forward to continuing our contributions to the next generation of space exploration.
