MJW has recently been selected to provide expert design-build fire protection services for projects at the Kennedy Space Center. In addition to NASA, the Kennedy Space Center is now home to several private aerospace companies.

MJW is working on several projects for the retrofitting and repurposing of two of space center’s hangars as well as its mobile launch platform. Design and installation of complicated fire protection systems is being performed for two hangars that housed the processing of spacecraft upon return from space and preparations for their next mission. The project is being performed with a team led by the Orlando office of Hensel Phelps, one of the nation’s largest contractors, and BRPH of Melbourne Fla, one of the leading aerospace design firms. BRPH partnered with MJW in early project development and budgeting stages, through the award, detailed design and the current installation.

Additionally, MJW fire protection is providing expert fire protection services for the mobile launch platform retrofit with JP Donovan Construction of Titusville, Fla. This NASA project, designed by RS&H of Merritt Island, Fla. is the repurposing of the mobile launch platform that previously carried the Ares rocket to now carry Orion rocket to the launch pad.

MJW has previously installed fire protection systems at the Kennedy Space Center, including projects for the RLV hangar in 2000, both crawler-transporters in 2009 and the O&C Building’s high and low bay areas in 2010.

MJW has decades of service and installation experience with complicated aviation projects. Additionally, working with military, law enforcement and similar entities requires MJW’s special knowledge of standards and procedures in addition to meeting strict facility access and security clearances to support mission-critical facilities.
