Hospital Cooling System Enhancement
At the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, maintaining precise environmental control is critical to supporting uninterrupted patient care. In late 2024, our team was engaged to address insufficient cooling in the hospital’s medical gas room — a space where temperature stability is essential for safe and reliable operations.
From the outset, the project required a careful balance of technical problem-solving and operational sensitivity. After evaluating the facility’s infrastructure, we identified the most efficient route to extend a new chilled water supply and return line from the existing chiller room to the affected area. This approach minimized disruptions while delivering the cooling capacity the space required.
To complete the upgrade, our team installed a new heating and cooling unit along with the necessary controls and associated electrical components. A key challenge of the project was performing two live hot taps — one on the chilled water supply and one on the return — in an active hospital environment. These connections were executed safely, precisely, and without incident, allowing hospital operations to continue uninterrupted throughout the work.
Through detailed planning, coordination, and adherence to strict safety protocols, the project was completed smoothly and efficiently. The result is a reliable, modernized cooling solution that supports the hospital’s mission of delivering high-quality care to veterans.
