Building Safety at Scale: Fire Protection for IKO’s New Manufacturing Facility

Fire Protection Systems

MJW Fire Protection was proud to support the development of IKO Industries’ new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, designed to produce and supply asphaltic commercial and residential roofing products. Partnering with general contractor Dana B. Kenyon, our team delivered a comprehensive fire protection solution tailored to a large-scale, high-demand industrial environment.

The system consisted of new 2,500 GPM electric fire pump and a 255,000-gallon water storage tank, supplying nine wet pipe sprinkler systems protecting manufacturing areas, warehouse storage, and office spaces. In addition, six pre-action sprinkler systems were installed to safeguard IT and electrical rooms, along with two dry pipe sprinkler systems protecting the loading dock and silo mezzanines—ensuring full coverage across a wide range of operational hazards.

Over the course of an 18-month installation, our team logged more than 11,000 on-site man hours while navigating the complexities of coordinating with multiple trades and working around large-scale manufacturing equipment. Through careful planning, communication, and execution, we successfully kept the project moving forward without compromising safety or efficiency.

Opened in June 2026, the facility stands as a testament to strong collaboration and dedicated craftsmanship. Both IKO Industries and Dana B. Kenyon expressed their satisfaction with our team’s performance, and with Phases 2 and 3 already planned for 2027, we look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.
